Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of the IMD Guest House?
The goal of the project is to provide an affordable, secure and supportive environment for the families and friends of patients hospitalized at any of the Illinois Medical District (IMD) medical institutions.
What specifically does “affordable, secure and supportive” mean?
The endowment fund will subsidize the cost for those who need financial assistance. The IMD Guest House will be more than a place to sleep, offering families a comforting and safe environment.
What is the relationship between the IMD Guest House and the IMD hospitals?
The administrations of all the IMD health care institutions are aware of the project and some of them have been involved since early in the planning process. The IMD Guest House has a cooperative working relationship with the IMD hospitals for guest referrals and input for support services. The hospitals are working with the Foundation to get the temporary facility up and running.
How will the project costs be met?
The IMD Guest House Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has been established to accept tax-deductible contributions. Since its founding, the IMD Guest House has raised more than $1.2 million.
With the IMD Guest House be a stand-alone facility or will it be housed somewhere else?
Our goal is to roll out the Guest House in two phases. A total of $2 million needs to be raised to begin construction on permanent Guest House facility. Until then, the IMD Guest House Foundation is working with the management of Medical Center Apartments, a building currently housing doctors and other medical personnel who work in the IMD. As part of first phase, the Foundation expects to lease up to 10 apartments to provide temporary housing for families and friends of patients receiving care in the IMD. The Foundation has a commitment from the IMD Commission for land near the four hospitals. When the capital funding goal is reached, the IMD Guest House Foundation will be able to secure the location and construct its own stand-alone facility.
