Runner Gives Her Best to Support IMD Guest House Foundation

Mary Ortiz, UIC employee, will compete in the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) in support of the IMD Guest House Foundation. The event marks the 36th running of the MCM, when up to 30,000 runners from around the world gather on October 30 in Washington, D.C. to compete.

Mary has set a goal of raising $500, enough to provide 20 nights of hardship service for families staying at the Guest House while their loved ones receive treatment at hospitals in the Illinois Medical District.

Help Mary reach her goal. Make a donation today. IMD Guest House Foundation thanks Mary...and you!

When Families Need to Stay Close

The IMD Guest House Foundation started in response to a critical need for affordable accommodations where family members can stay while their loved one receives medical treatment in the Illinois Medical District area.

Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Guest House serves people in need. The Guest House’s mission has expanded over time to include not only family members, but also the patients themselves, when they travel to Chicago for outpatient treatment. Each person who stays at the Guest House’s facilities is provided with comfortable, affordable accommodations for as long as they need it. The Guest House is the only such facility in Chicago that serves both children and adult patients, and families of children and adult patients, providing comfort and a safe haven at a time when energy must be directed to larger issues. Each of the hospitals in the Illinois Medical District is within walking distance of the Guest House’s accommodations.

As they are able, guests pay a moderate amount for the accommodations. No one in need is ever turned away from the Guest House for inability to pay.
