Editha House Sponsors Six Apartments for Cancer Patients

The IMD Guest House Foundation is pleased to announce its new partnership with the John and Editha Kapoor Charitable Foundation. This new partnership will expand the guest capacity of IMD Guest House and increase services to families and patients receiving cancer treatments at local hospitals.

Kapoor has sponsored the addition of six rooms to provide a relaxing, home-away-from-home for those receiving cancer treatments. This increases our ability to provide services to patients and family members, as well as reduces operating costs.

IMD Guest House now has 16 apartments, helping families find a place to rest while focusing on treatment. For referral to IMD Guest House during cancer treatment, please contact your American Cancer Society (ACS) Cancer Navigator.

"I don't think I could have afforded to stay somewhere else. This was really a blessing."

The Room Place Donates New Additions to IMD Guest House Rooms

IMD Guest House staff, board members and guests are grateful to The Room Place for their generous donation of ten leather recliners in November. This addition to ten of the guest rooms allows guests who find it difficult to lie flat a means of relaxing or sleeping.

When Families Need to Stay Close

The IMD Guest House Foundation started in response to a critical need for affordable accommodations where family members can stay while their loved one receives medical treatment in the Illinois Medical District area.

Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Guest House serves people in need. The Guest House’s mission has expanded over time to include not only family members, but also the patients themselves, when they travel to Chicago for outpatient treatment. Each person who stays at the Guest House’s facilities is provided with comfortable, affordable accommodations for as long as they need it. The Guest House is the only such facility in Chicago that serves both children and adult patients, and families of children and adult patients, providing comfort and a safe haven at a time when energy must be directed to larger issues. Each of the hospitals in the Illinois Medical District is within walking distance of the Guest House’s accommodations.

As they are able, guests pay a moderate amount for the accommodations. No one in need is ever turned away from the Guest House for inability to pay.
